<title>3rd IndicThreads.com Conference On Java Technology, 25-27 Nov, Pune India</title>
  <link>http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/vinuthomascom/~3/nIvEajEdTlA/sid=669.html</link>
<description>The 3 day conference will be held at the Hotel Sun n Sand in Pune, India from 25-27 Nov 08. Conference 2008 is all set to be a gathering of some of the best brains in the field of Java software development. Experts from across the globe will join software developers and architects from India in discussions on the latest in software development tools and techniques. Details can be found at the conference website - http://Conference.IndicThreads.com

The theme for the 3rd IndicThreads.com Conference On Java Technology is "Architect The Future" and the focus is on architectural issues and on technologies of the future. With the ever growing complexity and demands of enterprise software, the architecture of systems and their performance is under close scrutiny. The code is no longer the most vital part of the system. A robust architecture, smart usage of the latest technologies and performance under pressure is what matter most in enterprise software development.

The sessions at the conference take a look at the rich variety of tools and technology options in the Java space and also at emerging technologies that could cause a paradigm shift in software development. The sessions would go a long way in helping participants unravel key new technologies and concepts and make best use of the learning on real world projects. Conference sessions deal with topics like Domain Driven Design, SOA, HTML5 WebSocket, Agile, Lean, Ajax, Web 2, Scripting, Java Persistence and Desktop Java amongst others.

Speakers at the conference include reputed authors and thought leaders like Sidda Eraiah, Joe Winchester, Paulo Caroli, Debu Panda, Atul Kahate, Srini Penchikala, Harshad Oak and Ramesh Loganathan. The inaugural address will be delivered by Dr. Ganesh Natarajan, Chairman of NASSCOM and the Global CEO of Zensar Technologies Limited. The keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Anand Deshpande, the Founder of Persistent Systems.

In a novel initiative, the conference will also include a code lab on Google technologies, known in geek terminology as a Hackathon. The Hackathon is where delegates can try out Google technologies like the Google Web Toolkit (GWT) &amp; OpenSocial under the guidance of speakers and Google engineers.

Harshad Oak, editor of IndicThreads.com and the only 'Sun Java Champion' in India says "The IndicThreads conference is the best source of independent Java learning and discussion in India. We are happy that the conference is now in its 3rd year and we are working to ensure that the conference continues to be a facilitator for fresh and innovative software thinking in India. "

<title>Global broadband prices down 20 per cent in 2008</title>
  <link>http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/vinuthomascom/~3/TF4hClTmJEE/sid=668.html</link>
<description>NEW YORK: Prices for residential high-speed Internet service are down 20 per cent globally from the start of the year, according to a British research firm.

The biggest price drop is for DSL broadband over phone lines, with the average monthly price falling from nearly $67 in the first quarter to $53 in the third, according to the analyst firm, Point Topic.

However, little of the decrease has happened in the U.S., where prices have been largely stable and are already lower than the global average. Americans are paying $16 per megabit per second of download speed, far lower than the $46 average in the Middle East and Africa.

However, DSL is cheaper in Europe, and cheaper still in Asia-Pacific, where people are paying $3.80 per megabit.

Cable Internet service used to be cheaper in the U.S. than in Europe, for the same speed. But that situation has reversed, as European operators have raised their speeds while lowering prices. US operators have also raised their speeds, but have kept prices the same, Point Topic said.

Point Topic said broadband by optical fiber, represented in the US mainly by Verizon Communications Inc.'s FiOS service, is actually the cheapest option, if you take into account how fast it is. Total monthly charges are the highest, however, and the price drop from last year was lower than for cable or DSL.

i hope this will follow further reduction in india also.

<title>DoT rule to lower bandwidth costs</title>
  <link>http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/vinuthomascom/~3/07V1uh0roRU/sid=666.html</link>
<description>In a move that would improve the availability of cheaper international bandwidth in the country, the Government has decided to allow unlimited number of bandwidth resellers in the country.

The resellers will buy the wholesale bandwidth from licensed international long-distance (ILD) operators such as Reliance Communications, Tata Communications (formerly VSNL) or Bharti and sell it to end-consumers such as BPOs, banks, and exporters.

The move will benefit larger consumers of bandwidth such as ITeS companies, BPOs and Internet service providers who will be able to buy bandwidth from the resellers at much lower costs.

It will also benefit IT services companies as they will be able to expand their product portfolio by bundling international leased lines along with the services that they offer to their customers. ILD operators, who can now ride on the resellers to increase their reach apart from getting assured business.

  <title>Google's Android phone is here</title>
  <link>http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/vinuthomascom/~3/qXGV53sMBt8/sid=665.html</link>
<description>Google has handed a few hundred phones to its internal teams of engineers for real world testing. These reference models, presumably preproduction versions of the HTC Dream, are inconspicuous. Thicker than an iPhone, the flat, grayish-black hunk of plastic does not call attention to itself. It takes a savvy pedestrian to spot its identifying marks: a bank of serial numbers engraved across its face and backplate and a discrete white "with Google" badge stamped on the back.

The G1, which is made by the Taiwanese electronics maker HTC, has a large color touch screen that slides out to expose a full keyboard. It also has a 3-megapixel camera, G.P.S. navigation, Wi-Fi access and an Internet browser. It will sell for $179, or $20 less than the iPhone, with a two-year voice and data plan.

“This is as good a computer as you had a few years ago,” said Google’s co-founder Larry Page, who along with co-founder Sergey Brin arrived on Rollerblades at the New York stage where Google and T-Mobile held a news conference to unveil the G1.

<title>HP Wireless printers now in India</title>
  <link>http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/vinuthomascom/~3/N4KdUFOVSdQ/sid=664.html</link>
<description>Printers go wireless: HP Photosmart C6388, all-in-one, will be among the first wireless-enabled printers to be launched in India. But owners of older printers can add a wireless adapter

Wireless-enabled HP printers, whose launch in India is imminent, include the Photosmart C4580, C6388 and C5380 — all multifunction print-scan-copy inkjets. In addition to WiFi capability, they have an optional Bluetooth link which enables quick transfer of pages or pictures from mobile phones or digital cameras, over a few metres. The machines are internationally priced at $139, $149 and $199 respectively. Even the cheapest of these can print 30 pages a minute in monochrome and 23 pages in colour. The HP trend means wireless is coming to the budget end of printing, and not just to the pricier offerings. Indeed, wireless will first be common in the consumer end of the printing spectrum — and not at the enterprise end, Mr Morgan says.

For legacy printers - For those who have legacy, non-wireless printers of any make, wireless kits (mostly Bluetooth) are available; so the old printers can print wirelessly by simply plugging in the USB device. This costs about $50 equivalent.

<title>BSNL to invest in Europe India Gateway (EIG) cable</title>
  <link>http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/vinuthomascom/~3/_aegmyKSFG8/sid=663.html</link>
<description>State-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), Bharti Airtel, Tata Communications (formerly VSNL) and Saudi Telecom are investing around $400 million in an undersea cable link -- The Europe India Gateway (EIG) cable. Though the other telecom firms have stakes in other submarine cables, this would be the first undersea cable owned by BSNL in which the company is investing $50 million. Sources said that the company’s board has approved the investment in the project.

Once the cable is up, it would help BSNL offer more competitive rates for its broadband and international long distance tariffs.

BSNL, which is the largest broadband service provider in the country, derives as much as Rs 2,000 crore revenue from the segment, but analysts say that it stands a huge threat from Wi-Max, and the only way forward is capacity expansion which will be best done through participating in such consortiums.

<title>IPTV services - surf TV channels on Internet</title>
  <link>http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/vinuthomascom/~3/Dps6aoqfsDE/sid=662.html</link>
<description>Imagine that you got all your favourite television programmes without having to put up with pesky cable wires or a direct-to-hone (DTH) satellite dish.

With the Union Cabinet okaying guidelines for internet protocol television (IPTV), this is set to become a reality. What’s more, it won’t cost you more than DTH or cable.

IPTV, simpy put, is television content delivered through broadband internet rather than the traditional wiring or satellite dishes. Often, IPTV is bundled with internet access services.

The big stumbling block so far had been IPTV service providers alleging that broadcasters were charging them more than they were from DTH or cable providers, therefore making their services too costly.

The Cabinet decision makes it clear that IPTV providers would get channels from broadcasters as per broadcasters’ rates fixed by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
