Google discontinues the sale of Nexus One

Google has announced over at their Nexus One blog that they are discontinuing the sale of Nexus one. They had closed the Nexus One online Store earlier this year. They had received the last shipment of Nexus One phones from HTC last week. It’s a pity that they had to resort to this, given that it was a pretty good phone and till now, the only one with the official Android 2.2 Froyo firmware.

If you do have a Nexus One phone, don’t fret, since customer support is still available to people who have bought the device. Here’s what the post says:

“Customer support will still be available for current Nexus One customers. And Nexus One will continue to be sold by partners including Vodafone in Europe, KT in Korea, and possibly others based on local market conditions.”

This decision from Google comes from the fact that they were not able to sell too many units of the phone in the US, where consumers were looking at operator ties when buying the phone. But this doesn’t mean that the Android eco-system is out for the count. Android phones like the Droid and others have been doing pretty well over the last year.

Now to a question which is on our mind, Will they be bringing the Nexus One to India? After this announcement from them, it looks highly unlikely. For those of you who were waiting for the Nexus One to hit the Indian market, all we can say is keep your fingers crossed.
