In a twist of events for Apple’s patent lawsuits against Samsung, a British Judge – Colin Birss, has ordered Apple to publicly apologize to Samsung. The Judge has ordered Apple to publish an apology for claiming that Samsung had blatantly copied iPad’s designs while creating the Samsung Galaxy Tab. Apple was ordered to print the apology in UK’s local newspapers and also have the apology on Apple’s website for the next 6 months.
Although the apology has still not surfaced on Apple’s website, Samsung has reasons to celebrate. While complying to this order, Samsung is getting free publicity from Apple! One thing that the folks at Samsung won’t like is the fact that the Judge mentioned that Samsung couldn’t have copied the designs from the iPad, because the Galaxy tab is “not as cool as iPad”.
Samsung made a statement to the press after this verdict, and here’s what they had to say, “Samsung welcomes today’s judgement, which affirms our position that our Galaxy Tab products do not infringe Apple’s registered design right. As the ruling proves, the origins of Apple’s registered design features can be found in numerous examples of prior art.“
